FOR E.M.M.A'S
Hybrid piece for voice, in situ diffusion and modular train, 30', 2022.
E.M.M.A* is the name of the “speech-to-text” program which controls and coordinates the voices broadcast in Belgian stations and trains. These are 4 actresses whose voices have been encoded in Dutch, French, English and German. Their impeccable dictions accompany us daily, on the platforms as well as at each stop.
From the scripts of the E.M.M.A software, but also drawing inspiration from the particular sound characteristics of contemporary trains, Myriam Pruvot is designing a hybrid piece that will be both performed and broadcast during the journey that will take the public from the Schaerbeek Nord station to the from Mechelen.
In this piece, the voices of E.M.M.A emancipate themselves from their mission of information to form a chorus of words in dialogue with the sonic presence of the train, its tones, its timbres, its accents. The official digitized voices will be replaced by a human and imperfect choir.
